Centre for Macroeconomic and Financial Research and Forecasting

Recognising the need for scientific research development and analysis in the field of macroeconomics and finance, as well as their importance for the successful performance of numerous functions of the Central Bank, the Centre for Macroeconomic and Financial Research and Forecasting (the Centre) was established in September 2020.

The mission of the Centre is to strengthen the scientific research function in the Central Bank with the main goal of providing a theoretical and empirical basis for policy making and quality decision making within the authority of the Central Bank and which impact the banking system and the Montenegrin economy as a whole.

The main purpose of the Centre is the application of academic expertise in the field of macroeconomics and finance, with continuous development and quality improvement of the obtained results. Appropriate professional and academic levels of conducted research, as well as pragmatic orientation of research projects help the Central Bank to be more actively involved in the creation of policies, strategies and other activities. Research is also an important input for the Centre’s economic forecasts and financial stability assessments.

The research covers topics that are important in the context of general economic, monetary, and financial system stability policies, development of macroeconomic and risk monitoring models in the banking sector, and climate change.

The establishment of the Centre enables the Central Bank to further develop and affirm itself in the role of an independent producer of research/publications.
