Central Bank’s Policy in the Area of Consumer Protection

The CBCG pursues the consumer protection policy by continuously aligning the regulatory framework with relevant EU regulations and undertaking activities aimed at improving the rights of consumers - clients of credit institutions (banks) and users of financial services (microcredit financial institutions and providers of financial leasing services).

Within its regular activities aimed at consumer rights protection, the CBCG considers all complaints submitted by consumers - clients of credit institutions and users of financial services, and acts on them in accordance with its powers. The CBCG also assesses the compliance of creditors to whom it has issued licenses with regulations governing consumer lending through off-site and on-site examinations.

In addition, the CBCG promotes financial education, i.e. the strengthening of financial literacy, which is a prerequisite for responsible money management.

These efforts by the Central Bank of Montenegro enhance the stability and efficiency of the financial system.
