Governor Žugić participated in today’s annual Governing Board Meeting of the Center of Excellence in Finance (CEF) in Tirana, Albania. CEF is an international organisation based in Ljubljana whose mission is to support the development of financial sector capacities in Southeast European countries through learning and training.

At the Board meeting, attended by ministers of finance and governors from the CEF member countries, the annual report of this organisation for 2022 was adopted, and participants discussed plans for the next two-year period related to future training and development programmes.

The CEF Governing Board’s annual meeting was preceded by a High-Level Conference on Green Finance in South East Europe, which brought together many participants from banking and finance.

The conference was an opportunity for ministers of finance, central bank governors and other high-ranking representatives of institutions dealing with banking regulation and supervision from Southeast European countries to discuss the results regarding green finance and exchange opinions on challenges in this area.

Presenting the experiences of the CBCG on this topic, Governor Žugić pointed out that the institution’s commitment is to conduct an active policy to strengthen the financial system’s resistance to climate change challenges under its competencies, available instruments and resources. “In the next period, the CBCG plans to encourage an active dialogue with banks, include climate and environmental risks in supervisory expectations, and implement macroprudential and supervisory climate stress tests,” said Žugić.
