The First 2,000 euros Towards a More Secure Future: CBCG and Banks Give Savings Gifts to Babies Born During Savings Week
30/10/2026
Every baby born in Montenegro between 31 October and 6 November 2026 will receive an initial savings deposit of 2,000 euros, thanks to the traditional initiative of the CBCG and commercial banks. This marks the continuation of the “First Step Towards a Secure Future” campaign, which has been promoting a culture of saving, financial security and responsible money management for 23 years.
On this occasion, CBCG Governor Irena Radović and the Chairpersons of the Management Boards of commercial banks signed an Agreement on the Implementation of Savings Week today, reaffirming their shared commitment to an initiative that brings together financial education, social responsibility and tangible investment in future generations.
“Through this initiative, which has been lasting for almost two and a half decades, we support families and our youngest savers while fostering a culture of saving, financial literacy and responsible money management from an early age. I am particularly proud of the successful implementation of two major projects – Montenegro’s accession to the SEPA area and the introduction of the TIPS instant payment system. These achievements represent a significant step forward in modernising payment services, bringing us closer to the European financial landscape and enabling citizens and businesses to make faster, safer and more affordable payments. These results reaffirm our commitment to creating better conditions for generations to come,” Governor Radović stated.
Under the signed agreement, the CBCG and the commercial bank at which the parents open a savings account for their newborn will each contribute 1,000 euros, giving every baby born during Savings Week an initial savings deposit totalling 2,000 euros. The funds will be placed in a one-year fixed-term deposit, after which parents may choose to withdraw the money or continue saving.
Since the launch of the campaign, 2,926 children across Montenegro have received their first savings deposits, with the Central Bank and commercial banks allocating more than 1.3 million euros for this purpose.
This year, Savings Week will once again offer much more than monetary gifts. The CBCG will organise educational workshops and lectures for primary and secondary school pupils across Montenegro, aiming to familiarise young people with the importance of saving, responsible money management and making informed financial decisions.
Particular emphasis will be placed on linking financial literacy with modern technologies and innovation. On Saturday, 31 October, the Second National Robotics Competition on Financial Literacy, “Robofin”, will take place, jointly organised by the CBCG, the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation, and the Innovation Fund.
Activities of this kind demonstrate how partnership and shared commitment can grow into a tradition that creates lasting value for society.
