Governor Žugić attends the BIS General Meeting in Basle

Governor of the Central Bank of Montenegro (CBCG), Mr. Radoje Žugić, attended the 89th Annual General Meeting of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), held in Basle on 29 and 30 June 2019. 

During the Meeting, Governor Žugić had many bilateral meetings, including also the meeting with the Governor of the Bundesbank and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of BIS, Mr. Jens Weidmann. The topics of the meeting with Mr. Weidman included, inter alia, the support to Montenegro on becoming a BIS member, which may be expected in the upcoming middle term period. The excellent cooperation with the Bundesbank and the BIS was also confirmed, as they strongly contributed to the CBCG through the support provided in all operational segments, particularly the improving of supervision.


During the General Meeting in Basle, the Annual Report was presented, and the discussion that gathered all governors of central banks of the most developed global economies covered the challenges in the banking sector and the strengthening of international cooperation with a view to promoting global monetary and financial stability.


Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is the oldest international financial organisation, established in 1930, with head office in Basle, Switzerland. It is called the “bank for central banks”, and its role is to foster international monetary and financial cooperation and to act as a prime counterparty in financial transactions between central banks.
