CBCG Governor Irena Radović, held a series of meetings in Brussels with senior representatives of European institutions, as part of the CBCG’s intensive dialogue with European partners on Montenegro’s further integration into the European Union.

The meeting with Valdis Dombrovskis, European Commissioner for Economy and Productivity, Implementation and Simplification, highlighted the importance of continuing reforms that contribute to the financial system’s stability and resilience and to Montenegro’s further integration into the European economic and financial framework.

Governor Radović highlighted that the CBCG continues to deliver tangible results in the European integration process, particularly through activities related to alignment with the EU acquis, the modernisation of payment infrastructure, and preparations for future integration into the ESCB.

Discussions at the meeting with John Berrigan, Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union (DG FISMA), focused on the further alignment of Montenegro’s regulatory framework with European standards, as well as on preserving the country’s financial stability. Particular focus was on accession to the SEPA area and the announced TIPS Clone project as tangible achievements confirming the European direction of reforms and bringing measurable benefits to citizens and businesses even before Montenegro’s full membership in the EU.

Governor Radović also met with Thomas Waitz, Member of the European Parliament and Chair of the European Parliament Delegation to the EU–Montenegro Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee. The discussion focused on Montenegro’s European path, the importance of institutional independence, and the CBCG’s role in fulfilling obligations under negotiation chapters relevant to the financial sector.

“Montenegro is demonstrating that European integration is not merely a political objective, but a process already delivering concrete institutional and economic results. The CBCG remains fully committed to preserving financial stability, accelerating reforms, and ensuring full preparedness for future membership of the European Union,” Governor Radović stated.

The meetings with Berrigan and Waitz were also attended by Ambassador Petar Marković, Head of Montenegro’s Mission to the European Union.
As part of her visit to Brussels, the Governor also met with Kyriakos Pierrakakis, President of the Eurogroup and Greece’s Minister of Economy and Finance. Pierrakakis reaffirmed his country’s strong support for Montenegro’s continued European path and the completion of the accession negotiations. The meeting concluded with the message that Montenegro continues to advance through reforms and European integration at a time when the enlargement process holds particular strategic importance for the European Union.
