The CBCG Governor, Irena Radović, participated in European Forum Alpbach, which traditionally gathers leading representatives of international institutions, governments, central banks, the business community and young leaders from Europe and the whole world, with the aim of dialogue on key European and global topics.
At the invitation of the Governor of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank - OeNB, Prof. Dr. Robert Holzmann, Governor Radović spoke on the panel entitled “The Future of Monetary Policy and Financial Markets in Europe”. The panel highlighted that central banks today face multifaceted challenges - from geopolitical tensions and climate change, through accelerated digital transformation, to structural economic shifts.
In the European context, the need for deeper integration of financial markets through the completion of the Banking Union and rounding of the Capital Markets Union, along with the simplification and harmonization of the regulatory framework, was emphasized.
A special emphasis is placed on the adjustment of central bank policies and regulatory frameworks with the emergence of private forms of money, such as stablecoin, which can influence the traditional channels of monetary policy transmission. In this context, the importance of developing credible European solutions for digital forms of payment, while preserving stability and trust in the financial system, was emphasized.
Speaking from the point of view of a country that is a candidate for the EU membership, Governor Radović emphasized that the CBCG reforms in SEPA integration and improvement of supervision are directly aligned with European standards and represent an important step in bringing Montenegro closer to the EU single market.
“For small economies like Montenegro, alignment with European rules is not only a technical process, but the key to strengthening trust, attracting investments and creating new opportunities for citizens and the economy,” said Governor Radović.
On the sidelines of the Forum, Governor Radović had a series of bilateral meetings with colleagues from European central banks, international institutions and representatives of the business community.
The European Forum Alpbach 2025 was traditionally held in the Austrian Tyrol, this year on the theme “Recharge Europe with us!” dedicated to the renewal of European resilience and values in the conditions of growing geopolitical and economic tensions, climate threats and accelerated technological changes. The forum, which was founded in 1945, gathered around 4,000 participants from European and international institutions, governments, central banks, the academic community, the business sector, civil society and young people, with the aim of shaping sustainable solutions for the future of Europe through interdisciplinary dialogue. The Forum’s program was structured through a series of thematic units dedicated to democracy and the rule of law, climate and digital transition, security, and finance and economy. Special emphasis was placed on strengthening the competitiveness of the European economy and mobilizing private capital for green and digital transformation.
