Central Bank of Montenegro marks Global Money Week with success: Financial literacy brought closer to youth across Montenegro
23/03/2026
This year, the CBCG successfully marked Global Money Week again through a wide range of activities across the country. This global initiative promotes financial education, the development of economic knowledge, and the adoption of sound financial habits among children and youth.
This year’s programme was implemented from 16 to 22 March under the slogan “Do You Speak Financial?”, with the aim of presenting basic financial concepts to youth in a relatable, understandable and engaging way, while highlighting the importance of responsible personal financial management.
The campaign brought together participants of all ages – from pre-schoolers to university students – through carefully designed educational content tailored to their age and interests.
Particular interest was from the CBCG’s Open Day, during which secondary school pupils from across Montenegro visited the CBCG and spoke with Governor Irena Radović, and Vice-Governors Zorica Kalezić, Gordana Kalezić and Milan Remiković. The students had the opportunity to learn first-hand about the CBCG’s role and responsibilities, the importance of a stable banking system, and why financial literacy matters in everyday life and responsible decision-making.
This year’s Open Day also carried additional symbolism – in the year marking the CBCG’s 25th anniversary, the event was attended by pupils and teachers from exactly 25 secondary schools across Montenegro.
Through open discussion, practical real-life examples, an interactive quiz and numerous questions, secondary school students expanded their knowledge of money, saving, payment cards, online shopping, payment security and recognising financial fraud.
CBCG representatives also introduced the importance of financial literacy to pupils of the Secondary Vocational School “Spasoje Raspopović” in Podgorica and the Grammar School “Petar I Petrović Njegoš” in Danilovgrad.
Financial education workshops delivered through play with the robot “Štedljivko (The Little Saver)”, held at the primary schools “Sutjeska”, “Savo Pejanović” and “Milorad Musa Burzan” in Podgorica, “Mirko Srzentić” in Petrovac, and “Kekec” in Sutomore drew special attention from younger pupils. These workshops are part of the national project “Robotics for the Youngest”, implemented by the CBCG in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation and the Innovation Fund.
As part of the programme, pupils from the “Njegoš” primary school in Cetinje visited the CBCG’s Money Museum, where they discussed money, saving and budget planning.
The youngest participants of Global Money Week, children from the pre-school institution “Bambi” in Tivat, were introduced to basic concepts about money through an educational workshop and play.
In the final segment of the programme, CBCG experts engaged with students from the University of Donja Gorica on topics related to payment systems and financial technologies.
Global Money Week is an international initiative held every March in more than 170 countries worldwide under the auspices of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The CBCG has been actively participating since its launch in 2012.
