Stronger cooperation needed in combating cybercrime

The Governor of the Central Bank of Montenegro (CBCG), Radoje Žugić, met with the Ambassador of France, Christian Timonier, and the head of the Regional Department for the Western Balkans at the Embassy of France, Pierre Grandjouan.

The Governor presented the interlocutors with the economic situation in the country, with a particular focus on the banking sector. “Banking operations indicators confirm that the banking sector’s stability has been preserved in the year ending”, the Governor pointed out. He added that, due to the significant uncertainty and associated risks, the CBCG closely monitors all events daily so that, if needed, it would respond timely in considering the need to introduce new prudential measures on the micro and macro level.

The interlocutors agreed that a safe and sound banking sector is a prerequisite for economic development. They pointed out the need to resolve current economic and fiscal vulnerabilities, which requires establishing a political dialogue as soon as possible based on democracy and respect for the Constitution and the law.

The meeting also discussed the need for inter-institutional and regional cooperation to improve combating against cybercrime, which represents one of the biggest global threats of the modern era.
