Today, the Executive Director at the IMF for the Belgian-Dutch Constituency, Jeroen Clicq, visited the CBCG where he met with the Governor Irena Radović and her team.

Governor Radović briefed Mr. Clicq with the results achieved in the previous period, priorities for the next period and key challenges the CBCG is facing.

“The CBCG is fully committed to implementing reforms and integrating into the European financial system. Strengthening financial stability, modernisation of CBCG in line with Eurosystem central banks and the nearby implementation of the first SEPA transactions confirm that we are heading decisively towards membership in the European System of Central Banks. We are convinced that, by working closely with IMF and our other international partners, Montenegro will deliver the results that both our citizens and businesses rightfully expect and deserve.”

She added that, for the first time since its foundation, the CBCG adopted the Strategic Plan for the period 2025-2028, aimed at strengthening financial stability, integration into the European financial framework through SEPA, digital transformation and human resource development. She also pointed out the importance of implementing the TIPS clone project with the Banca d’Italia, under the auspices of the ECB, strengthening the integrity of the financial sector, as well as measures aimed at promoting sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

Mr. Clicq praised the reform path of the CBCG and its strong commitment to European integration, highlighting that the CBCG significantly contributes to Montenegro’s overall EU membership journey. “The impressive results of the Governor and the CBCG team show that the CBCG is resolutely moving towards realising its vision – integration into the European financial area and the Single Euro Payments Area now, before full EU membership,” said Mr. Clicq. He added that the IMF will continue to support the reform processes and the ambitious reform agenda of the CBCG.

The interlocutors noted that the cooperation between the CBCG and the IMF has been very successful so far, especially highlighting the joint work on technical assistance projects, such as the Transparency Code Review, the Central Bank Independence Index, Balance Sheet Resilience Testing, and the current project to innovate the CBCG’s Communication Strategy.

Concluding the discussions, they assessed that the cooperation between the CBCG and the IMF is strategic for further strengthening the Montenegrin economy’s resilience and the continuation of reform processes. It was agreed to further intensify continuous dialogue and cooperation on joint projects, which will be discussed during the upcoming IMF and the World Bank Annual meetings in Washington this October.
