The CBCG presented the CBCG Green Award for 2024 for the best academic paper on climate change’s effects on the financial system today on the occasion of the Ecological State of Montenegro Day.

Ms Marina Marković (MA) received the 3,000 euro award for the paper “Central Bank’s Role in Combating Climate Changes and Preserving Financial Stability”.

At the award ceremony, Governor Irena Radović presented the award to the winner by pointing out that the Green Award is only a step towards fostering a change in thinking and creating an environment where the green economy will become the foundation for Montenegro’s future growth and development.

“The transition to a green economy is a transformation towards smart, inclusive and sustainable development, while simultaneously reducing the consumption of limited resources. In this process, the CBCG’s primarily aims to create conditions for greening the banking sector by expanding the offer of innovative and sustainable financial products, as key to the path to a sustainable economy, but also to create a systemic approach and transfer our actions to all other segments of the system,” said Governor Radović, emphasising that the CBCG intends to actively contribute to strengthening awareness of the green economy’s importance.

“The Green Award is part of the range of CBCG’s activities in transitioning the Montenegrin economy towards a greener and more sustainable one and improving our regulatory framework and the institution’s functioning. It is also part of a broader message to society that the CBCG is committed to recognising challenges and solving them and contributing to developing the overall more sustainable economy”, highlighted the CBCG Governor.

The CBCG Green Award is an initiative launched to affirm a responsible attitude towards climate change challenges and stimulate scientific economic thought in this area.
